ProfessionalHighlights
- What is your role, and what do you enjoy most about it?
My role is essentially that of a “Jack of all trades”. While my title is Administrative Assistant, I also function as a background check processor, quality assurance specialist and research assistant. Anything that enters our workflow which needs immediate attention, I am on top of.
What I enjoy most about my role is the element of constant teamwork. We maintain what I consider the best team ever through refreshing candor, constructive feedback, celebrating each other’s successes and sharing individual failures as a unit. This collaborative environment is what makes my position so rewarding.
- How long have you been in this field/with our company? What inspired you to choose this career?
Truth be told, I landed in this industry as the result of a back injury around mid-2018. I have chosen to remain in and even further my career in this field because of the idea that I am making a meaningful impact by helping someone move forward in their career, ensuring a candidate is well-suited for the job they’re pursuing, or helping a company avoid decisions that could harm its operations. The work feels purposeful.
- What’s one accomplishment you’re most proud of at work?
I’ve knocked out both the basic and advanced FCRA certifications, AND my 1,000-lb phone problem is starting to feel more like 500 lbs.
· What’s one skill you think every professional in this field should have?
Attention to detail is critical. In this business, accurate information is everything, as it can make or break someone’s ability to secure employment.
Personal Insights
- What motivates you to do your best work?
I am on my best game when we are at our busiest. I enter a kind of competition with myself when I have a full queue of new requests, phone calls to be made and returned and notes to be documented. Perhaps I perform well simply because I have no choice but to give my full attention—but whatever the reason, it really works for me.
- What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
Fun fact? I talk in my sleep…It is, pretty fun.
- How would your coworkers describe you in three words?
Not enough words. 😊
· What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
My ideal day off starts with waking up early to fit in a long workout followed by a relaxing soak. After that, I’d enjoy a big breakfast and a refreshing shower before settling in for an at-home matinee—definitely at home because there’s a good chance I’ll doze off. When I wake up from my nap, I like to treat myself to something cold and sweet as a little reward for all the hard work I do during the week. Later inthe afternoon, I’d take care of any errands I can’t usually handle during work hours, like shopping, cleaning, or spending time with family and friends. Top the day off with a comfort meal like a hearty serving of chicken pot pie or a bowl of chili, followed by an early bedtime. That’s a true chef’s-kiss kind of day.
· Who has been a major influence in your life or career?
My boss, Ann Beecher—without a doubt. She has a work ethic unlike anyone I’ve ever met, and she’s shown me that hard work IS enjoyable. She’s taught me that when you show up with the right attitude and confidence in yourself, you can reach heights you never imagined. Her passion for the world of background checks sparked my own love for the industry, one that I’ll carry with me throughout my career.
