November is an ideal time for HR teams to review hiring processes before the new year.

  1. Review your background screening policies. Food for thought:
    • Make the offer, then run the background check.
    • Don’t put an employee in place until the background check is done
    • Be compliant with Ban the Box/Fair-Chance Hiring movements as outlined in all states and localities.
  2. Revisit compliance. Review applicable FCRA obligations, adverse action procedures, and state and local requirements.
    • Ask if your background screener has ways of making disclosures, distributing Your Rights Under the FCRA and adverse action easier for you.
  3. Evaluate your screening partner. Look at
    • Accuracy
    • Turnaround times,
    • Communication
    • Issue resolution
  4. Improve the candidate experience. Are the following clear for everyone:
    • Disclosures
    • Instructions
    • State updates
  5. Plan for changing hiring needs. Identify:
    • Anticipated hiring volume,
    • Hard-to-fill roles
    • Process bottlenecks

Before the year ends, take time to review your screening process so your team can enter 2027 prepared, consistent and confident. Got any questions about your current procedures and product?

Let me know—I’ll provide a no-cost evaluation and will be honest if what you get is a great product (right down to the price) or could use some work. https://calendly.com/ann-ceverify/30min
